Are You Remodeling Your Kitchen?

Alide Oortwijn

Did you get an early Christmas present of getting to remodel your kitchen? Or, perhaps it has just part of your plan to give your kitchen a new look before 2018 comes to a close. If that's still your goal, you're even probably trying to accomplish the remodeling job before the holidays, maybe because you'll be having out-of-town company or maybe because you'll be entertaining friends for Christmas events. From selecting the kitchen cabinets to selecting new kitchen furniture, here are some ideas that might help you to design something attractive that your family and your friends will enjoy for many years to come.

The Kitchen Cabinets

Do you already have countertops that you like? Perhaps you bought granite countertops awhile back and they are still looking great. If that's the case, think about selecting kitchen cabinets that complement the countertops that are already in place. For example, if you have black granite countertops, consider selecting white cabinetry and adding red accent pieces. That would give you a truly dramatic kitchen. If your countertops are beige or brown, consider buying brown wooden cabinets to give your kitchen a very traditional look. Think of the hardware you want for your cabinets. For example, if your faucet at the sink is brass, then brass hardware would be perfect for your kitchen cabinets. If the faucet is pewter, then pewter hardware for the cabinets would be great, too.

The Kitchen Furniture

Are you buying totally new furniture or are you giving your existing furniture a new look? For example, if you have wooden furniture, are you repainting it? That would be easy to do before the holidays arrive, wouldn't it? If you went with the white cabinets with your black countertops, then think of painting the furniture bright red. If you are buying brand new furniture, think of the mood you want to set. If you want a contemporary feeling in your kitchen, consider buying metal kitchen furniture. For an old-fashioned feeling, consider buying a wooden table and choosing ladder back chairs. As you select your furniture, think of buying a floor-to-ceiling shelf. By doing so, you'll have a place to display things like cookbooks, your pottery dishes, and other collectibles. Is there room in the kitchen for a desk? Having one in your kitchen would more than likely be a very handy place for you to do things like pay bills and write notes.
